So Katsucon! Last year we attended as guests as well were asked along with Jamie Noguchi to be on the publications staff and produced one half of the badges for the convention (not sure which ones were used for what, I know one was used for the artist alley). This year we were once again asked to be apart of the publications staff and were given the task of miscellaneous art for the convention and for a random shirt design. We were more than thrilled to see our design on no only the Staff shirt, a random badge or two, inside the program book,

but one of our favorites was our very own Ryan Thompson’s kimono girl on the attendee bag…Very cool!

We absolutely loved being a part of the staff at Katsu, and I still believe it’s one of the nicest staffs I have ever worked with. As for the con it seems like another well put together convention by the Katsu folks and they seemed to have really listened to fans (at least the stuff I remember) when it came to making improvements. I arrived early since I was staying with our very own [sic] writer Brian Godwin for a couple of days before to do some much needed partying, so I was a little worse for wear when we set up our tables, but otherwise we got everything up and had a great time. I’m not going to bore you with the details of sitting at the table all weekend, but I did manage to snap a few shots of cosplays that caught my eye or random items such as my newest little Twilight Sparkle trinket(got one for the wife as well).

I was going to make a shout out’s section, but there are just far too many people to shout out to that I’m worried that someone will get mad that I left them out. So to everyone we saw and spoke with over the duration of that weekend…You are all awesome and <3.

Yeah we know Valentines day isn’t a holiday or anything, and many people look at it as a day for greeting card companies to make money, but who can resist Skoll in a heart on the front page!?

Anyway, starting Friday you will be able to see us at Katsucon which is being held in National Harbor MD, that crazy looking mini-city thing off of I-95 near DC. I can’t remember if I made a post about this now, but just in case I didn’t…This will be our last big convention for this year. The main reason for this is because we are refocusing our energy into doing original art and releasing more books for the 2013 convention season. We currently have alot of fan prints and we want to move away from that and really show off our own stuff and hopefully get people to come by our table to see what we are all about.

So with us taking a break and such that means this weekend we are going to be selling everything at discounted prices, and if you are a reader of any of our comics, then you could walk away with free swag! Just come by the table and tell us that you’re a reader and you want the to be asked a question only a reader would know the answer to…get the question right and you will walk away with some free merch! As always if you come dressed/cosplay as any character from the darkstar library, then you will get free stuff!

I know I have mentioned the new site a few times, but still really have nothing to show for it. I admit I fell behind after a nasty DB error brought my work to a halt, but I have been very productive the last couple of weeks and hopefully will have the new site up and running soon. We will be adding all kinds of new things…That includes comics as well. Last year we finalized plans with a very talented and well established artist who has been in the comics game for some time and Darkstar will be the exclusive home of one of his many titles when the site relaunches, so we are very psyched for that. However, we still have an open roster spot and we are still very much looking for our next member of the Darkstar family…So I shall you refer you to our submission page located here in case you or a friend are interested in placing your name or comic in the hat!

Next up is our convention schedule…We currently only have 2 conventions planned for 2012, and this is because I have been doing cons non-stop since 05. Now early on I was helping out for a certain anime company, but after that I went into webcomics and have been non-stop since then (this of course doesn’t include when I was just an attendee back from 99-03). So we are just doing two this year…One being Katsucon since we count that as the last con of the 2011 season…Yeah I know it’s 2012, but it’s just how our stuff works. The other convention will be our hometown convention Animazement (pending application review) to close it all out. We are not just doing this to take a break, but also to re-organize for our return in 2013, when we will finally start expanding out west. We aren’t sure which cons we will hit just yet, but we are open to suggestions so let us know or let your local cons know you want to see us there and maybe they will give us a ring haha.

Finally…2011 was a great year for Darkstar…Our viewership doubled, which means we also received more feedback on the site and our comics, which I can happily say was mostly positive. We don’t try and pretend to be something we’re not….We just want to draw comics and hope in that process that you folks find them enjoyable because without you guys we wouldn’t really be having this conversation….So from the bottom of our hearts here at Darkstar…Thank you and we hope you have a great 2012!

I’m not even kidding, I’ve just wrapped up moving a few days shy of Christmas, and geez, this year I can honestly say that it snuck up on me. I know most of you must be either busy doing Chistmassy things, or setting up watches for the big man in red, so I’ll make this quick. I hope all you folks have a wonderful Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanza, Winter Solstace, and/or whichever other celebration I may have missed in my casual cultural insensivity. But seriously, I hope all you guys have a wonderful Holiday and stay both safe and contented. Thanks for reading, Happy Holidays, and Merry Christmas from all of us here at Darkstar!
