Want to submit a comic to be considered for the Darkstar lineup? Read below for more information!
READ FIRST…IMPORTANT: Some things you will need to know about Darkstar….We are comics first. If you have some delusions about making lots of money or being super famous, then you need not apply. We do what we do here at Darkstar because we love comics and we love drawing them! Those are the two main requirements to apply for a webcomic spot on this site, so if you think you can handle that then keep reading playa!
The Perks:
1. You pay nothing! You don’t pay for hosting, you don’t pay for advertising, you don’t even pay for the merch you sell (yes you will see some money from that but remember…that’s not important…right?!). That is all part of the package! Just email me if you want to know a little bit more on this topic.
2. We are working on Darkstar 3.0 and with that will come more customization to individual comics…We like to try and keep things a little uniform, but not so much that people feel trapped within the site. So if you want some customization, don’t worry as I will work with you the best i can to make your part of the site…pretty!
3. WE WON’T OWN YOU!!! At no point will I ask you to sign over your comic to me or Darkstar. If you join and one day feel that its time to go, then we will wish you the best (unless you were a jerk). Of course we want to try and create a place that artists feel they can stick around for awhile, so I will always try to keep in touch and figure out what I can do to make your experience here comfortable and easy on you.
4. Update system! Darkstar is run by WordPress and Comicpress which means a fully automated updating system. It’s very simple to use and we also take advantage of Facebook and Twitter updates as well.
So…We offer all these things and more, but we do ask for a few things in return. One thing we ask is that you keep that important paragraph up top in mind at all times. If you got that then here is a small list of other things we ask for.
- You need to have an existing comic or have an idea that belongs to you. If we find out your are plagiarizing or tracing others works or whatever, we will remove all of your content and possibly contact the proper authorities. This is a serious matter and we take it very serious….Seriously.
- You need to be able to update your comic..We prefer at least once a week, but we can be flexible. Also we understand life happens so if you have to take a short hiatus we understand. This is another subject that we will go over if you are chosen.
- Must be 18+ or are turning 18 in 2011. We understand there are some great comics done by people under the age of 18 and while we hate to enforce this rule, it’s just something that has to be done from a business side of things. Sorry
These are pretty basic rules and we will be sticking to them. I should also mention that we will not be accepting 18+ theme comics at this time. We do not have a problem with pg-13 content/language, but we are not currently ready to offer nudity on the site. You can submit comics that you aren’t sure about and we will let you know if you wanna do it that way. Also, all art styles are welcome..We will not be excluding people because they don’t have an anime/manga art style. That is just what happens to be on the site currently, so please do not let that stop you from submitting.

And finally samples..I would prefer links(devart, imageshack, etc) instead of files, but if you absolutely must send files, then please zip them up for ease of use and to save my inbox the hurt. The more samples you provide the better your chances as two or three samples probably won’t provide us with enough material to really form conclusions with.
We will have 2 artists and 2 writers looking over all submissions. If we like what we see and feel it will fit in with us here at Darkstar you will be submitted into the finals and possibly contacted with further questions. After that we will bring in a small panel of trusted allies to help us choose the final comic…Even possibly two comics! If you aren’t chosen we will let you know…I always believe that talking to people and providing feedback is important, so that is just what we will do.
